Dear Editor,

During my recent visit to Carleton University for a scientific conference, I ran across some posters placed by students of Armenian origin on several walls in various locations.

One of them was: "Throughout history, all civilizations and nations have aimed for glory by exploring, researching, education, scientific inventions, trade, politics etc... Where in Turkish understanding, glory is achieved by slaughtering".

Such posters and slogans reflect nothing but racism and hate literature.

While we should all cherish our freedom of expression in this beautiful country, we should also keep in mind that the very freedom carries with it some specific duties and responsibilities, such as respect of the rights and dignity of others. Canadian laws prohibit racial hatred that advocates discrimination and hostility.

I hope the university administration has already taken the necessary steps to stop the proliferation of unnecessary activities, which provoke acrimony and antagonism among students.
