"Turkish Airlines to co-operate with Thai Airways
BOONSONG KOSITCHOTETHANA
ISTANBUL : Turkish Airlines is consolidating its air link between Bangkok and Istanbul and establishing a co-operative accord with Thai Airways International (THAI) as part of its aggressive international expansion. But the Thai national carrier appears to be less enthusiastic in offering a direct connection between the two capitals, thus allowing Turkish Airlines to continue to take advantage of the growing traffic as the sole operator over the route."

"Toward a New Era in Turkish-Iraqi Relations Regarding the PKK
By Abdulkadir Onay
BitterLemons-International.org, April 17, 2008
Last month, Iraqi President Jalal Talabani visited Ankara for a meeting with his Turkish counterpart Abdullah Gul to discuss, among other things, the PKK issue. The PKK (Kurdistan Workers' Party) currently controls a terror enclave in northeastern Iraq. The Iraqi Kurdish parties -- Talabani's Patriotic Union of Kurdistan and the Kurdistan Democratic Party -- flank the PKK enclave. The United States is currently cooperating with Turkey in its operations against the PKK by providing intelligence support. But this cooperation will not be successful unless the Iraqi Kurds, who have the ability to block the PKK enclave, come on board and take a stand against the group."

From The Economist print edition
The grim skills of identifying and analysing human remains are being transferred from one benighted place to another
AT THE new "family viewing facility" in the divided capital of Cyprus, human bones extracted from mass graves across the island are laid out on a long table covered with white cloth. Greek- and Turkish-Cypriots come to grieve for long-lost relatives, and to collect the bones for reburial."

"Akin to life and death
Fatih Akin's latest film delves more into family relations than culture clashes, writes Stephanie Bunbury.
PEOPLE talk about filmmakers "finding their voice". Fatih Akin's voice is a roar. Born in Hamburg to Turkish parents, the coke-loving, night-living rock'n'roll animal of European cinema is not a particularly perfect craftsman. Head On, his film about two Turkish-Germans who meet in a psychiatric hospital after each of them has tried to commit suicide, was so crammed with issues, ideas and plot elements it sometimes seemed as mad as its two central characters. "Slow down, Fatih!" you wanted to say. "They will let you make another film; save something for later!""

Mustafa Kutlay
Thursday , 17 April 2008
The world is experiencing interesting and turbulent times. The mortgage crisis emerged in the US at the middle of 2006 has turned out to be an almost full-pledged financial crisis since some banks have already declared bankruptcy. It aroused the attention and concern of the world, since none of the governments in England has performed nationalization applications for more than two decades. Notwithstanding Gordon Brown, the Prime Minister of UK, declared it is a temporary pre-caution by saying "we want to get the bank back into private ownership after a temporary period of time [which] will depend on how the markets recover''[i], it did not calm down the markets, and depositors."
