ISTANBUL – Turkish Daily News

The first and only website donating its profits to women's funds and supporting women entrepreneurs by only selling their products was opened in January 2008.

Kadineliyle.com (means made by women) sells mostly organic and natural products of 12 women online and 20 more are expected to join soon. Women entrepreneurs get the largest share of the profits from the sales of their products through the website. The rest of the profits are shared between women's fund Women Entrepreneurs Association of Turkey (KAGİDER), the Foundation for Supporting Women's Work (KEDV) and the Web site. However, Web site officials said that they get the smallest share of the profits only to be able to meet the operating costs.

Kadineliyle.com is more than just an online shopping Web site since it has policies to support businesswomen. The founder of the Web site Sezer Aksoy, also general manager of Karum Consultancy Company and member of KAGİDER, said Kadineliyle.com is the first of its kind since it helps women entrepreneurs living in small cities where finding a market to distribute their products is very hard. She also said that the Web site is a social project, which brings women entrepreneurs in Turkey together.

"The aim of this project is to help women who are new and inexperienced in the business sector and increase women entrepreneurs' customer portfolio through the Internet," said Eva Sındıroğlu Bakır, the project coordinator. This site encourages women to have their own firms and stand on their own feet in a business environment.

"Many housewives call us and say they want to sell their products through Kadineliyle.com, however there is a procedure and they have to establish a firm first," said Bakır. Although this seems like an obstacle for housewives, in reality it is not since it encourages them to establish their own firms and take the first step to be active in business life, according to Bakır. Those who want to sell their products through their husband's or brother's firms should keep in mind that they will not be allowed on the Web site since this site aims to increase the number of the businesswomen in Turkey as well as their capacity and recognition in the long run.

Women who are willing to establish a firm but do not know how to do it will find help here too. The Web site officials supply important information for existing and prospective women entrepreneurs for issues ranging from the bureaucratic procedures on how to establish a firm to the wrapping of products. "It is not only a Web site, it is a portal since we plan to offer more services for women such as news updates for women and carrier stories of businesswomen," said Bakır.

The English version of the website in under construction and as soon as it is finished those living abroad will be able to order products from Kadineliyle.com. Bakır told Turkish Daily News that they can send products anywhere in Turkey where cargo companies exist. Natural and organic products on sale on the Web site are hand made and pure. There is a large range of merchandise such as textiles, jewelry, personal care amenities, food products, home decorations and special designs such as painted wooden boxes as well as paints and photographs.

Several brands from different provinces in Turkey are available on the Web site such as Art&Gift from the Central Anatolia province of Kütahya, Hobi Dünyası from Hatay, Otacı, Jan Jan and Ornatolia brands from Istanbul and MimarCA from Ankara. Also, Efsun soaps made of goat milk in Adapazarı province of Marmara region, organic hand made blouses, pillows and carpets made of organic olive oils and rugs in Karatepe district of Çanakkale are some of the unique products available at Kadineliyle.com.
