Gokmen Beha, one of the founding members of the Turkish Women's Philanthropic Association, picked up an 'Unsung Hero' award last week for her long term voluntary work.
The charity, which was founded 40 years ago, has been providing important services to the Turkish Women ever since and gets involved in other good agendas such as doing work for underprivileged children and schools.
The national Unsung Women's Awards Ceremony was organised by the Equalities and Diversity Unit of Haringey and was opened with a speech by Cllr Nilgun Canver.
Deputy Mayor Dliek Dogus was also on hand to give out the awards to the members. Other activities during the day included a Salsa workshop, Children's Activity corner, Conel Beauty "Makeover", Hairdressing, Carpentry, Conel Counselling and a Health Drop in by Haringey PCT.
