Tuckerton contractor seeks 3rd District Republican nomination for
U.S. House

TUCKERTON - A local contractor has decided to run for the
Republican nomination for the U.S. House of Representatives in the
3rd District.
Sam Dogan, 49, has never held a political office. But his first
contact with politics happened at 16, when the Newark native
volunteered for the campaign of former state Assemblyman and Sen.
Anthony Imperiale, an independent who represented Newark at the
Statehouse during the 1970s. Dogan is anti-abortion and anti-
nepotism, he said. He wants to minimize costs to run government and
to socialize health care. Initially against the Iraq war, he said
Friday he favors gradual troop withdrawal from Iraq. He also
proposes to resolve the United States' immigration crisis by offering
a residency program with a $5,000 application fee. With the 20
million illegal immigrants he estimated currently living here, it
would be an economic boon and allow the government to collect taxes
from applicants as they work and wait for a resolution of the
processing period, he said. Dogan said he came to the U.S. at age
11 from Istanbul, Turkey.

An Ocean County resident since 1989, Dogan said he sees Jack Kelly
as the fiercest competitor in a field that also includes Medford
Township Mayor Chris Myers, Tabernacle businessman Justin Murphy and
Berkeley Township nursing student Suzanne Penna. The winner of the
June 3 primary will run against uncontested Democratic state Sen.
John Adler of Cherry Hill in the general election.
He will manage his own campaign and expects to host a fundraiser in
April. He said he is not worried about his late entry. "The last
few months of the race is important," Dogan said. "This is just the
right time." Dogan is a licensed builder and home improvement
general contractor. He is married with six children.
