KENT, Ohio: Turkey's Bahcesehir University is setting down roots at Kent State University, paying $2.7 million (1.75 million) to turn an aging residence hall into a cultural center.
Van Campen Hall will become dormitory and classroom space for Bahcesehir students who are studying at Kent State. Bahcesehir will lease Van Campen from Kent State.
The goal is to increase the number of Bahcesehir students at Kent State from the current 20 to about 50 to 70.
Kent State's executive director of international affairs, Ken Cushner, says the program is an outgrowth of cross-cultural training and faculty exchanges that began several years ago.
