I recently watched the movie "The Gods Must Be Crazy" and noticed the part mentioning that the Kung Bushmen society doesn't have a problem with crime, punishment, violence, laws, police, judges, rulers, bosses. I couldn't help but think they also don't have a problem with psychiatrists or clinical psychologists.

I also noticed where it was mentioned the Bushmen don't punish their children and as a result have well behaved children who are reasonably creative and happy. This reminded me of B.F. Skinner's advocacy of positive reinforcement in place of punishment and the book called Beyond the Punitive Society. Some day we're going to have to figure out a way to create egalitarian and communal societies where no forms of after the fact punishments are applied.

 

Would you believe that the Kung Bushmen have had their Utopian way of life shattered by the Botswana government. Apparently diamonds were found on the land they inhabited so they were forced into resettlement camps that look like prisons. See http://www.survival-international.org/tribes/bushmen
